Honda and Toyota have had the midsized market all to themsleves with their entries; the Camry and the Accord, since Ford has dropped the Taurus from their line. The Fusion has been around since 2006 but it is only now with the new Hybrid power plant making waves that the public has sat-up and taken notice.The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.The excellent in-town gas mileage is what makes the Ford Fusion Hybrid so unique.The Fusion hybrid gets a fuel economy rating of 41 MPG which beats its main competitor, the camry, by almost 10 more MPG; the Fusion even betters the Civic Hybrid in the city.Without any help from the internal combustion engine, the electric engine can push the Fusion up to 47 MPH.It has been written about and this system has been used by many to get better MPG than the EPA says are possible.

Using new technology, the Fusion can inform drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy. They have created an ingenious system which is built into the instrument cluster called the SmartGauge. There are 2 LCD screens located one on each side of the speedo which display 4 different information screens. The first screen shows the fuel level and the level of power left in the batteries.The 2nd display shows the vehicle tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid. The third screen displays engine and battery output power.The fouth data screen shows which wheels are being powered and accessory power consumption.The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.To inform the driver which driving style is the best for fuel economy, a real time MPG information gauge is available.

Check the nav display to see the cool hybrid Energy Flow stuff. This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.

Ford not only equipped the Fusion with an environmentally friendly drivetrain; they also used post-industrial yarns which are recycled into the seats of the Fusion Hybrid.Toyota and Honda have been selling thousands of hybrids per year unchallanged, better late than never with Ford.
