The New Prius – 50 MPG!

By cco-ama

The 2010 Toyota Prius raises the stakes in the hybrid world. The Prius continually gets the best gas mileage of all hybrids today. The Prius hybrid comes stock with a 1.the new prius has a larger displacement engine.5L.Optimization in the torque increases gas mileage and fuel economy due to lower gearing at highway speeds.Past models had 110 horspower, the new model has 160-hp.

Past versions will be eclipsed by the 2010 Prius, which is up by 4 MPG.Hypermiling habits can make your Prius MPG soar!  Nevertheless the improved fuel economy is due to the redesigned lighter stiffer body and powertrain, which has been reconfigured for less weight. Engine noise and vibration are reduced thanks to a stiffer chassis.

In redesigning the Prius, engineers have successfully improved the steering by angling the wheels slightly and creating brake discs at all four corners. Something else exciting about the new Prius is that many of the optional features on the previous model now come standard on the 2010 model, such as: automatic air conditioning, a CD stereo, power windows, locks, and doors. Some cool new items include a rearview camera, LED headlights, Solar Panels on the sunroof, and a Satellite Navigation System.

The battery recharging system has also been upgraded. The new Prius has earned a top spot in terms of safety. Maintaining distance cruise control, parking assist, and safety connect systems like on-star are all accessories included on the Prius.

Which 2010 Hybrid Car is Best

By cco-ama

Honda has officially released the new Insight. The MSRP of the Honda Insight is much less than that of the new Prus. The lower MSRP earns the 2010 Insight the title of most affordable hybrid in the U.S.

The Insight offers an ECO Assist system which enhances fuel economy further by controlling acceleration rates and helping the driver drive learn how to drive more economically. The ECO socring helps the drive to have a system that allows for the best fuel economy, which is related back to the operator in the form of a miles per gallon readout. An electric motor gives the engine a nice boost, this system is called the integrated motor assist or IMA.   This system in the next generation hybrids from Honda are greatly improved and result in reduced weight, cost savings, and greater cabin space. The Insight makes good use of Honda’s Intelligent V-TEC engine technology. For about the price of a base mopdel Prius, you can get a nicely equipt Insight that comes with: rims, USB integraded stereo, navigaion with voice recognition, and steering wheel mounted shifter. The Toyota has been the reigning king of the hybrid market for years now, but with the low price of the Insight, Honda is aiming to take away that title.

Opposite of the Insight, the 2010 Prius offers a 160-hp 1.8 liter motor has three sttings for operation. Those include ECO mode, which allows more of less pedal responsiveness for fuel economy, the EV mode that allows the vehicle to run only on battery power for ½ mile, and the Power Mode which increases pedal sensitivity for more responsive driving. The Pre-Collision system is available as an option on the Prius.Adaptive Cruise Control uses a laser to keep the same distance between your car and the car infront of you, and the Prius will automatically apply brakes if needed. Toyota has added some buttons to the wheel to make the driving experience a bit more safe.

Yes the Insight is much cheaper than the Prius, but the Prius does get much better fuel economy.Early test put the Insight at a combine fuel economy of 41 miles per gallon, and the Prius is reported to get a 46 combined miles per gallon rating.Traveling more than 20,000 miles in only 365 days (when gas is .50 a gallon), you would spend 19 in fuel on the Insight and 86 on the Prius. By owning a Prius, you would save about 53 Gallons of gas and 3 per year, but to break even, it would take over 27 years to break even.Yes the Prius gets much better fuel economy, but the low starting price of the Insight more than makes up for that difference!
